Hey there and welcome,
I’m Erika – and I want to share with you why learning to “say YES” (even when it scared the bejeeezus out of me) catapulted my career from parking cars at a local hotel to starting and operating remarkable companies from the ground up. It all starts with Yes… and then the real work begins.
I have come to realize that building your dreams is hard and making the decision to build your dreams or do something that isn’t the “norm” in our world is scary. Believe me when I say, I still have all the feelings of fear that I had on day one, but jumping in and being comfortable with it is just part of the journey.
I wanted to create a place for women, like me, who know they weren’t meant to work a 9-5, who have great ideas but are scared to move them forward or scared to talk about them for that matter… who wants to look stupid, right?
My hope here is to EMPOWER you and help you find INSPIRATION, move your business forward and build your DREAMS.
Here’s a little secret:
You don’t have to be perfect, you don’t have to be a model, you don’t have to be the smartest person in the room, you have to be YOU! …Just you! Working on your dream is messy, it’s hard, and it’s not for the weak… It’s about Grace, Grit, hard work, Dedication and most importantly, support from others.
If somebody offers you an amazing opportunity – but you are not sure you can do it,Richard Branson
say yes – then learn how to do it later!
I love that each day is set out with a group of challenges that I don’t know the answers to yet. It’s all about figuring things out as I go along. I love encouraging and leading people and building teams. The best part of my day is, to see collaborations flourish!
But wait! I was not born an entrepreneur…
Entrepreneurship was not something I had any exposure to. As a kid, I grew up in a small community and the only professions I knew were Doctors, Lawyers, Police officers and Nurses. The path to become one of these things seemed pretty straightforward and in the beginning I was heading down the path of settling into everyday life and becoming just that. Don’t get me wrong, I think each of these professions are very noble, in fact, my Dad was a police officer and I learned a lot from watching him and his work ethic. The problem was, I just couldn’t see myself doing any of these things and I was stuck feeling like I was missing out on something more.
It wasn’t until one summers day in 2007 that my life really changed. Of course I had no idea at the time, but when I look back, this was a huge turning point for me.
At this junction I met my now business partner, Cameron Chell. He was in desperate need of an assistant and since I was working at a job that I frankly hated—slinging garbage for 1-800-GOT-JUNK—I thought: “Yesss!”
Over the next year I worked diligently to prove myself to Cameron. It was hard work but I loved it. We were creating something out of nothing. When the time came for us to incorporate, he asked me if I wanted to be his partner. I had no idea what that really meant at the time, but again I said “Yesss”. Enter Business Instincts Group (BIG).
There is a theme in my career – I consistently say yes before I’m ready. And once I’ve said yes, I get it done.
